Collaborating to Care for Lake Winnisquam
Seeing Lake Winnisquam in Real Time
New Continuous Water Monitoring Buoys
Lake conditions can change quickly. Now, WWN can see those changes as they happen.
WWN has partnered with Subtidal to deploy two solar-powered, continuous water monitoring buoys on Lake Winnisquam. Located near Three Islands and Mohawk Island, the buoys collect data around the clock and at multiple depths.
The sensors measure water temperature, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a, phycocyanin, and wind direction providing valuable information about changing lake conditions and factors associated with harmful algal blooms.
This new technology complements WWN’s existing water quality monitoring and Plankton Patrol programs, helping us build a more complete picture of the health and ecology of Lake Winnisquam.
THE LAKES
The Lake Winnisquam watershed includes Lakes Winnisquam, Wicwas and Opechee. The watershed is located in the communities of Meredith, Laconia, Sanbornton, Belmont, Tilton, Gilford and New Hampton.
OUR MISSION
The Winnisquam Watershed Network (WWN) is a collaborative effort of individuals and organizations acting to preserve and protect Lake Winnisquam and its watershed now and for future generations.
