The Winnisquam Watershed Network is pleased to announce that we’re partnering with NH LAKES to bring their LakeSmart program to our watershed community. LakeSmart is an education, evaluation, and recognition program aimed at encouraging a new cultural norm of lake-friendly living. Participation is free, voluntary, and non-regulatory, not to mention fun! The self-paced program looks at the actions people take in their home, on their property, and even out on the water itself, to determine how lake-friendly they are. 

Anyone in the Winnisquam watershed can participate. You can begin your LakeSmart journey simply by taking the online self-assessment. It should only take about 15 minutes and your answers remain confidential. After completing the self-assessment you’ll receive a follow-up report of personalized recommendations to help you become more lake-friendly.

The LakeSmart Award is the final step, and is given to property owners who are dedicated to achieving the highest standard of lake-friendly living. Once you think your property is ready to be considered for the LakeSmart Award, you can choose to request a site visit from LakeSmart evaluators. You may receive some additional tips, or you could earn the coveted LakeSmart Award on the spot! 

The Winnisquam Watershed Network encourages all watershed residents to give the LakeSmart self-assessment a try. It’s a quick and easy way to ensure that we’re all educated about the best ways to care for our properties so that our lakes can have a healthy future.
