Watershed Planning Public Workshop scheduled for Tuesday May 18th

The Winnisquam Watershed Network (WWN) will be hosting a virtual public workshop to take place on Zoom on Tuesday May 18th from 4:30-6pm to discuss the development of the Winnisquam Watershed Based Management Plan and how it will benefit the watershed. Register here in advance for the meeting to receive access to the Zoom link.

During this meeting we will discuss what a Watershed Based Plan is and why we are developing one for the Lake Winnisquam Watershed. We will discuss water quality, sources of pollution and potential solutions to problems within our watershed. We are also interested in hearing from you! What resources and activities are most important to you and what changes have you observed in the watershed over the years?

The Watershed Based Management Plan will identify sources of pollutants to Lake Winnisquam, determine water quality goals, and identify best management practices and protection strategies to be implemented in the watershed to achieve those goals and to protect the high quality of Lake Winnisquam and the smaller lakes in our watershed, including Opechee and Wicwas.

Our watershed is being impacted by increasing recreational activity and development pressure, while at the same time struggling with the effects of climate change and threats from invasive species.  In order to maintain the high quality of our lakes, it is of vital importance that we as a watershed community recognize the potential impacts of those changes and have in place a long-term strategy to address them.

The WWN is asking that residents of the watershed please let us know if you have any specific water quality concerns or issues you feel should be addressed in the plan. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey so we can understand what issues are important to you! A drawing for a 100$ Amazon gift card will take place at the public workshop for those that fill out the survey and include their contact information. We thank you for your participation and look forward to seeing you on May 18th!
